PROJECT OBJECTIVES IN DETAILS:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

SO1

Develop a robust numerical approach that combines hydrological and hydrogeological numerical models at the basin/drainage basin level to predict the evolution of water resources under Climate scenarios and different water demands.

SO2

Propose methods to measure the resilience of drainage basins to climate change by assessing groundwater response time.

SO3

Assess groundwater vulnerability to human impacts and climate change by (a) implementing groundwater resource assessment tools, namely integrating advanced geochemical tracers and isotopic hydrology, (b) applying innovative approaches to identify pollution sources and quantify their contribution, and (c) investigating the fate and evolution of CECs as they reach water bodies.

SO4

Explore the suitability of high-capacity managed groundwater recharge (Flood-MAR) systems capable of collecting and infiltrating large volumes of water during periods of extreme rainfall and propose key design criteria for their implementation at the study sites.

SO5

Integrate advanced methods applied in WATER4MED, and the resulting data, into water governance models using integrated tools developed for water resource planning.
MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT!

Project Challenges:

• Mapping available water resources: The need for data-driven models and strategies to address information gaps.
• Adapting to climate risks: Developing strategies to deal with floods, storms, and droughts.
• Preserving water quality: Finding solutions to protect the quality and quantity of groundwater and surface water.
• Reproducibility in other countries: Offering scalable solutions to other regions facing similar water challenges.
